A Leap of Faith / in Pròlegs a Contratemps (1848–2048)

The book Pròlegs a Contratemps (1848–2048) proposes a game to imagine what possible prologues to the Communist Manifesto might look like today, and is one of the two publications of the exhibition “Whispers, Noise and Paradoxes. Attempts for a Politics” at the Centre d'Arts Santa Mònica, Barcelona.

This book explores different articulations, from diverse territories and temporalities, in order to take the Communist Manifesto out of its condition as a relic or fetish and to explore the power it has had as an emancipatory tool in many contexts. At a moment characterized by a lack of horizons, this publication proposes thinking through leaps of fiction that can revitalize us and give continuity to meaningful questions.
In their intervention Pomarico and Oleynikov portray participants of different of Free Home sessions engaging with the questions opened by the Draft of a Communist Confession of Faith (written by Engels in 1847 to accompany the Manifesto). Those participants confessions poetically evoke intentions, desires, learnings, and tools that emerged in their ongoing collective experiment. The bright future and a more just society that Communism prefigured is still far away, yet this group of committed commoners insists on learning how to struggle better together.
