Ways of Listening / in WAVES: Radio as Collective Imagination

This publication reflects on radio and audio practices — their infrastructures, modes of collaboration and situated knowledges — in written, visual and sonic form. The first volume of Journal of Contemporary Audio Practices aims to look at radio and the sonic as political forms of collective organization.

Ways of Listening is a contribution to WAVES conceived by Alessandra Pomarico with contribution of Elliot Perkins (Ultra-red), seasoned with illustrations by Nikolay Oleynikov unfolds on the practices of active listening protocols brought to FHU by members of Ultra-red collective in 2015 when we started to work closely with the communities of Struggle in Salento during the first two consecutive sessions What is the Sound of Freedom and then What is the Sound of Justice. Mapping political territory of Lecce and Salento with the groups of refugees, LGBTQI+ activists, neighbors of Santa Rosa quartiere, social workers of Grupo Umano Solidarieta' through listening walks and conjunctural analysis of collected sound objects lead to a deeper and broader political understanding of those questions.
