School of the WE | Editorial Meeting @ <rotor>, Graz
- News
At <rotor> -- a legendary autonomous space for art in Graz, Austria we continue to work on a publication for the project called School of the We co-curated by Alessandra Pomarico, Daniela Brasil, Margarethe Makovec, Anton Lederer with participation of Nikolay Oleynikov.
THE SCHOOL OF THE WE is an artistic, cultural and pedagogical process that investigates and supports the formation of a collective subject, a sense of belonging that includes the human and the non-human element, centering on conviviality, ecosystemic interdependence and multispecies cohabitation.
The process-based long and ongoing project started in 2020 and is taking shapes in several chapters concluding in a form of a book where participants propose a practical exercise. The editorial team gathered in Graz in June to work on the concept, content, and shape of the future book.

Back in 2021 The School of the We took place across the Annenviertel neighbourhood, in five locations, the ‘islands of conviviality’ created by artists will emerge and address site-specific questions and orientations. These temporary structures, realized with the participation of many neighbours, are to be used, inhabited, and enjoyed by everyone.
THE SCHOOL OF THE WE is conceived as a way to reweave our connections and our sense of togetherness. It is a place of learning, unlearning and ‘up-learning’. In a moment of radical shifts and unpredictability, it refers to models that welcome the unforeseeable as a formative element alongside the unambiguous and defined.
In the gallery space of < rotor > the artists will also offer sensorial and immersive experiences to the visitors, inviting them to participate with their creativity, interacting with their pieces or taking action in the workshops. The times in which our senses are numbed and we are confined in solitary activities will pass!
